The “Regional System Petal,” which to date has been led by the region’s parks directors, supported by Metro’s Sustainability Center, worked for three years on a concept that would have put an ongoing source of funding in place for operations and maintenance of the region’s parks. The concept was put on hold when some of the region’s mayors met and concluded that the timing was not right for such a measure. The Alliance needs to get this initiative moving forward again, with the participation of a broader base of the region’s leaders.
This committee decided that it will function as an “executive strategy group” and will spin-off working groups to guide Alliance involvement in individual funding measures or initiatives as they arise.
