Ever wonder about that slow-moving channel of water running through Gresham, Fairview, and NE & N Portland?  This free hands-on workshop will explore the unique character, challenges and opportunities of the Columbia Slough and its Watershed.  You'll learn about soil & sediment in relation to water quality, how the Slough has changed over time, and what that means for fish, wildlife, people and businesses.  Open to everyone interested in learning more about the Columbia Slough Watershed.

Explore Macroinvertebrates (water bugs) that live in the Slough.
Simulate and predict aquifer conditions with an interactive groundwater model.
Test water quality through dissolved oxygen, temperature, and PH levels.
Tour the water pollution control lab facility.

Getting dirty at the Arboretum has never been easier!

We're inviting all who are able to come help us with some mulching, trail work, trimming, hauling, weeding, etc. 
The work this group will do will help us get our grounds in tip top shape this very important month.... Arbor Month!

If you're interested, you should expect to get super dirty, meet some really fun people, and feel sore the following day from a good morning's work. We have all the tools and gloves, but you should wear clothes you don't mind getting messy and that are appropriate for the weather.... it's Portland, so it's probably a safe bet that it might rain.

Join us for free urban nature adventures every third Wednesday, February through November (except April and July)! Each guided "hike" will consist of an easy walk or tour with a theme, appropriate for all ages. March theme: Powerful pollinators! Join us on a tour to see native plants beginning to bloom and learn how native pollinators, including bees, birds, and ants, help them spread their seeds! You'll also get to make native wildflower "seed bombs" and mason bee houses to take home!

We would like to invite you to this month's Rewilding Skill Series. The Rewilding Free Skills Series is a class & networking event that happens monthly, that usually occurs (but not always) on the last Saturday of the month. It is a place for social networking where people make new friends and hang out with old friends learning skills to connect us with humanity's ancestral past and more local and sustainable future. We ask for a $5 - $10 suggested donation with no one turned away.

This month's theme is Animal Tracking. Come learn how to identify and follow animal tracks. Learn more about animal tracking opportunities in the Portland area and beyond. Take home a plaster mold of an animal track!

This month's theme is Archery & Atlatls. Most people know what bows and arrows are, but how many people have launched a dart with an atlatl? Before the bow and arrow became popular, for thousands of years humans used the Atlatl, basically a spear-throwing stick. Come to the archery range, shoots some bows and arrows and launch a couple darts with an atlatl. We'll talk about the range of human projectile technology, and give people a chance to try them out. Please bring your own bows and arrows if you have them. We will be able to provide a few for those who do not have them.
