Are active transportation (think biking and walking) projects of regional significance? Contribute to a discussion about different ways to define “projects of regional significance” and help develop answers that could guide future investments in transportation.

An ever-increasing body of research confirms the direct connection between transportation options and job growth, economic vitality, and human and environmental health. Yet many transportation conversations dismiss walking and bicycling as local concerns that have little regional impact. Is this the case? What criteria should be used when determining if a transportation project is of regional or statewide significance?

Speakers will present various perspectives on what it means to be regional in transportation, hopefully sparking an open discussion. Ideas will be captured in a white paper developed by the forum sponsors to inform future discussions and decisions on this topic.

The Intertwine Alliance's "How We Get There Matters" Regional Active Transportation Forum, sponsored by Metro, the Safe Routes to School National Partnership, and Portland State University's Initiative for Bicycle and Pedestrian Innovation, will generate engaging, ongoing consideration of the importance of active transportation, parks and trails.

The event is free and open to Alliance partners and the general public. Please note that registration is now closed, as we've reached attendee limit. Please email info@theintertwine.org to get on a waiting list.
