Bring a lunch, water bottle and two snacks. Dress for the weather. Suitable for ages 7 - 11 years. Only a few animals can be at the top to the food chain, and we are going to learn about the remarkable ways these predators hunt, survive and thrive in nature. We'll spend time in the forest and study animal specimens.

How in the world do all the animals in the park talk with each other?  From frogs calling, coyotes howling and birds singing, each animal has their own way of talking.  We will use our ears to try to listen to the sounds coming from the park!

These rainy days of winter give us plenty o fmud in the park! We will explore the magic of mud as we mix it, paint with it, plant with it and stomp in it! Make sure to wear your mud boots and bring an extra change of clothes in case we get dirty.

Join forces with other campers this week as we take on the wild world. Explore the Nature Park and other natural areas to learn methods of foraging and tracking for wild food and other survival techniques.  What plants are safe to eat? Are you brave enough to eat a bug? Can you camouflage your fort? Could you find your way out of the forest? Field trips include the Tillamook Forest and Oxbow Regional Park.

Mini Nature Camps are half-day camps for young elementary-age children filled with fun and adventure. Create crafts, play games, make new friends and explore the trails and habitats of the park. Campers need to bring a snack, bottle of water, and small backpack each day. Suitable for ages 6 -9 years.  Advanced registration required; call 503/629-6350. An assessment fee will be charged for out-of-district patrons. $86 for one week of half-day camp.

Join your nature friends at camp, where each day we will work together to complete a nature quest.  Whether we are looking for clues left behind by people and wildlife or learning to read and make maps, every day will be filled with adventure. Friday, we will put all of our skills to the test to find the secret treasure hidden in the park.

REI Outdoor School: Learn to Climb Class for Kids 8-12

Learn the basics of the dynamic sport of rock climbing in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. In this class you'll get an overview of basic rock climbing gear and learn how to put on a climbing harness. You'll then get individualized instruction in belaying and climbing on an indoor climbing wall. We'll also discuss the differences between indoor and outdoor climbing. Class size is kept to a minimum to allow for individualized instruction. All climbing gear provided. Responsible adult must accompany the child. This class is for Kids ages 8-12 years old. We will cover the following in this class:

  • Overview of types of rock and the difference between indoor and outdoor climbing
  • Overview of basic climbing equipment
