Volunteer For Trails!

Washington Trails Association (WTA) is hosting a day work party out on the Bridge Trail at Beacon Rock State Park. The Bridge Trail is at the north end of the park, or the Backcountry side. It links the Hardy Ridge area to the Hamilton Mt. side of the park and has a really cool bridge across Hardy Creek. WTA volunteers completed the tread construction back in 2012.

We'll be headed in to do routine annual maintenance to make sure the drainages and culverts are clear to handle winter storms and spring melt. If the weather is too cold and wet to get up there (1,800 ft.) we've got an alternate project lined up on the Lacamas Heritage Trail in Camas.

No experience in trail work necessary, just a willingness to pitch in and help trails. Volunteers park for free and earn credit towards a complimentary Discover Pass.

Gateway Green is envisioned as an open space and recreation area, as well as a working test site for "green" innovation. Connected to Portland's famed 40 Mile Loop (a pedestrian and bike route originally proposed by the Olmstead Brothers in 1904 and now nearly complete), Gateway Green stands to become a regional destination for locals, tourists, and green industry professionals. The land is located where I-84 and I-205 cross paths and was once the site of Multnomah County's Rocky Butte Jail. Gateway Green is unique in that the park is only accessible by foot, bike and light rail via the I-205 path. It's located approximately a .25 miles north of the Gateway Transit Center.

Weekly Powell Butte Bike Ride (Tuesdays)

Tuesday, August 7, 2012 - 6:00pm

Weekly Powell Butte ride - Weather Permitting - Helmets required Trails closed when muddy This ride happens weekly except when it conflicts with general meetings or weather.

Rule of thumb, if it's rained hard, within the last few days, or has rained consistently without a sun break before the scheduled ride. It's cancelled. Please login and sign up if you plan to attend.

This will be a somewhat unorganized ride, just meet up in the temprorary Powell Butte parking lot at the end of SE Holgate, just east of 136th street just before 6pm as we are pedalling out of the gate at 6. We will climb up the Old Holgate Trail and from there go at our own pace throughout the trail system. I'll do my best to provide some maps, but be aware that we likely will not all stick together, but instead split into various groups depending on the number and fitness level.

Ultimately, the intent is to go ride the Powell Butte Trails at your own pace, have some fun, get excercise, and make a presence of responsible mountain biking on 'The Butte'. Check back with the NW Trail Alliance website the morning of the ride as weather could cancel the ride.
