Powell Butte Natural Area trail volunteer restoration event. Second Saturday of each month, 9:00 AM-noon (JAN-NOV). Join Portland Parks & Recreation, Hands On Portland, Friends of Powell Butte and other community members to perform needed restoration work on Powell Butte! Restoration projects include trail work, fence work, invasive species removal and other tasks. Please wear long pants and long sleeves, sturdy walking shoes, and bring a hat, raingear and water bottle. Plan to do a lot of walking, in addition to the project work! Tools, gloves, water and granola bars will be provided. Meet at: Gates Park @ SE 136th & Holgate Blvd. Turn east onto Holgate from SE 136th and follow to the parking lot. Group will likely be hiking quite a ways from the parking lot, so be on time to be sure to meet up with the group. Tri-met bus # 17. Trekking Springville Road with Laura Foster

Journey into the past with local author Laura Foster on this hill-to-bridge trek through Forest Park.  Start down historic Springville Road, a former market road turned park trail, and meander through the isolated Whitwood Court neighborhood at its base.  From there, investigate an intriguing staircase, learn a bit about the old St. Johns ferry and the former community (in the 1860s) of Springville, wander out onto the St. Johns Bridge for river views, and head back uphill via the beautiful Ridge and Hardesty Trails.  

 

Note: This walk is steep, with about 800 feet of elevation gain.  

Meet: Springville Road trailhead off Skyline Boulevard.

Join Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District for an afternoon of recreation, environmental education and activities for kids and adults at various spots along this Fanno Creek Regional Trail.

Sunday Trailways is scheduled for June 24 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. It will be a free event with activities for kids and adults at various points along the Fanno Creek Trail. The trail, which extends 4 1/2 miles within THPRD boundaries from Garden Home Recreation Center to Greenway Park, features some of Beaverton’s most scenic areas, including the Koll Wetlands, Fanno Farmhouse and Vista Brook Park.

The event will begin with a grand opening ceremony to commemorate January’s completion of the “missing link” of the trail, a half-mile segment extending from the intersection of Scholls Ferry Road and Allen Blvd to the end of 105th Court (near the intersection of Denney Road and Highway 217).

After that, trail neighbors and patrons of all ages and fitness levels are invited to walk, run or bike the route, meet neighbors and enjoy activities throughout the trail.

 

Planned activities include:

• Body fat/fitness assessments by THPRD personal trainers (Garden Home)

• Kids station with face painting, games and activities (Garden Home)

• THPRD Rec Mobile with activities for kids (Vista Brook Park and Greenway Park)

• Natural Resources education with park rangers (Vista Brook Park)

• Food/beverages for sale (Greenway Park, Garden Home)

• Historical guides/performances (Fanno Farmhouse)

• THPRD Nature Mobile with opportunities for kids touch real animal fur and feathers (Koll Wetlands)

• In-depth info on THPRD trails (Greenway Park)

• Free basic bike repair (Greenway Park)

THPRD encourages patrons of all ages and activity levels to join us for a new summer tradition on the trail. Ditch the car for a day and celebrate nature with friends and family.

SW Trails sponsors a once a month walk through areas of southwest Portland. It's a great way to get some exercise and meet your neighbors.

The walks are on every second Saturday of the month. We start at 9:00am and try to get done by about noon.

Location: We meet at the west entrance to Wilson High School. This is just east of the SW Capitol and Sunset intersection.
