Conservation Working Group

The Conservation Working Group sponsors forums on conservation topics, connects practitioners in conservation fields, and launches projects based on the Regional Conservation Strategy.

Two working groups are now forming: one is tackling habitat connectivity and corridors (Lori Hennings, Metro, lori.hennings@oregonmetro.gov, 503-797-1940). Another is discussing pollinator issues, including approaches to pollinator monitoring (Katy Weil, Metro, katy.weil@oregonmetro.gov, 503-797-1688) and connecting patches of pollinator habitat (Janelle St. Pierre, Portland Parks & Recreation, Janelle.St.Pierre@portlandoregon.gov, 503-823-4439).

A seven-member steering committee meets on an as-needed basis to provide direction, ideas and support to conservation projects. Feel free to contact co-chairs Bruce Barbarasch, Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (503-614-1214, bbarbara@thprd.org) or Jonathan Soll, Metro (503-797-1727, Jonathan.Soll@oregonmetro.gov).

Quarterly Conservation Forums

Next up: Conservation Priority Info Exchange

When: Thursday, July 21, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Where: Metro Regional Center, Rooms 370A & B
600 NE Grand, Portland, OR

Please RSVP here.

The third in our quarterly conservation forum series is a classic information-sharing event. We're asking organizations to come prepared to give a 3-minute (preferred) to 5-minute (maximum) overview of program priorities for the next 1 to 3 years, beginning with work planned to start this July 1. Our hope is that this will help organizations find partners with similar interests far enough in advance to budget money and staff time appropriately.

If you plan to attend and would like to present, we ask that you RSVP, since time is limited. If you prefer to submit priorities only, via a written document, that is acceptable, too; we plan to compile the information and post it here.
