Stewardship Saturday at Columbia Springs

Have fun, learn, and help out at Columbia Springs! This family-friendly event is a great opportunity for community members to participate in environmental restoration and projects that improve Columbia Springs' 100-acre natural area and the historic Vancouver Trout Hatchery. Projects may include gardening, painting, trail maintenance, and more. Every Stewardship Saturday includes a lesson about local ecology to start the day and concludes with a fun activity like a craft or nature hike. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Children under 14 are welcome with parent or guardian supervision and teens under 16 with parent or guardian permission. Snacks and tools provided. Please bring sturdy shoes, appropriate outdoor work clothing, a water bottle, and your enthusiasm for helping the community! To sign-up or for more information, email volunteer@columbiasprings.org

This event will be held at the main pavilion at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds. In a few short hours, we'll sell hundreds of rootstocks, give away thousands of scions, graft untold numbers of trees, complete our Make-A-Tree orders, and help lots of folks launch into the pleasure of growing good fruit at home!

The Plankhouse is a very popular spring and summer destination, educating and inspiring visitors from all over the Nation and even the World.  Attend this training to gain skills to lead the public through this traditional Chinookan-style Plankhouse.  

Docents work on the weekends with visitors and/or during the week with school groups.  Topics include culture, history, and the everyday life of the indigenous people of the lower Columbia River.

Ocean Blue Project, presents Mill Race "Let's Save The Wood Ducks" Stream Clean-Up & Restoration!! This event is part of a continuous effort to restore habitat along the banks of Mill Race with mycofiltration. We will set the stage by clearing the area of noxious invasive weeds like blackberry and English ivy. Burlap sacks of mushroom mycelia will be placed over the cleared banks. We will plant native wetland vegetation to enhance habitat and erosion control we plant will along the site. Our main goal and focus of the event will be environmental education. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, Litter Cleanup, Native Planting, Maintenance & Monitoring, Erosion control. Also during the month of February, we will be co-hosting a worldwide wetlands photo contest for 15-24 year olds with the Ramsar Convention (an international treaty to ensure the conservation and wise use of wetlands everywhere).  Submit your wetland photo during World Wetlands Month and win a trip to a wetland of your choice, anywhere in the world!  Bring a friend, plant a tree, and take a picture to submit to the photo contest with us!
