Handmade Gardens Urban Farm is a 9-year old homestead and intentional community, located on a 9000 s.f. lot in the Cully neighborhood. Since 2007 we have been building soil over lawn, nurturing edible forest garden, and growing all the vegetables needed to sustain the four resident humans. The homestead is integrated into the local community, sharing knowledge and surplus produce with neighbors and any who care to visit. Humans share the land with domestic ducks and native pollinators. Medicinal plants from European and Chinese herbalism grow integrated with vegetables and across the paths from over 100 species of northwest native plants. Rewilding Free Skills Series: Archery & Atlatls

This month's theme is Archery & Atlatls. Most people know what bows and arrows are, but how many people have launched a dart with an atlatl? Before the bow and arrow became popular, for thousands of years humans used the Atlatl, basically a spear-throwing stick. Come to the archery range, shoots some bows and arrows and launch a couple darts with an atlatl. We'll talk about the range of human projectile technology, and give people a chance to try them out. Please bring your own bows and arrows if you have them. We will be able to provide a few for those who do not have them.

Rewilding Free Skills Series: Natural Movement

Saturday, July 30, 2016 - 3:00pm to 5:00pm
Rewild Portland
Address:

We would like to invite you to this month's Rewilding Skill Series. The Rewilding Free Skills Series is a class & networking event that happens monthly, that usually occurs (but not always) on the last Saturday of the month. It is a place for social networking where people make new friends and hang out with old friends learning skills to connect us with humanity's ancestral past and more local and sustainable future. We ask for a $5 - $10 suggested donation with no one turned away.

This month's theme is Natural Movement. Most people these days in first world countries like the United States grow up with their feet firmly planted in shoes, walking on hard, flat ground. We sit in chairs, hunched over a keyboard (as I am right now), for hours on end. This isn't what our Gene's have in mind for the way in which our bodies are meant to interact with the world, and in nature. So how do we move naturally? We'll be looking at animal movements, MovNat techniques, and other aspects of how humans have moved, and still move today, without the aid of shoes, in rough and wild terrain. Come learn what our bodies can really do, and share what you may already know!

There will be some hands-on activities, as well as an opportunity for folks to share their own experiences with this practice.
