Tryon's 34th Trillium Festival set for April 5-6

 
March 14, 2014 | Portland, OR -- Friends of Tryon Creek's 34th Annual Trillium Festival, held as always at Tryon Creek State Natural Area, will take place this year from April 5th to 6th.
 
The annual event is one of the region's first and largest native plant sales, with proceeds used support the Friends' many educational programs. Visit the Trillium Festival webpage for more information.

Tualatin River friends group wins national award

Tualatin Wildlife Refuge Eagle Rescue

March 13, 2014 | Tualatin, OR -- Conservation group Friends of the Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge has been awarded the National Wildlife Refuge Association's 2014 "Friends Group of the Year Award."

The national award recognizes the volunteer group for  outstanding work connecting the community to this important regional asset.

Portland selected as a U.N "Regional Center of Expertise"

March 12, 2014 | Portland, OR -- Portland, and specifically the Greater Portland Sustainability Education Network (GPSEN), has been officially been recognized by the United Nations Institute for Advanced Studies of Sustainability.
 
The Portland metro area is the third city to be acknowledged as a Regional Center of Expertise by the United Nations program. GPSEN joins 127 other partners around the globe to build capacity and awareness for the many groups involved in sustainability education in our region.

Earth Day to launch Children's Museum's new nature play area

Staff say that transforming the 1.3 acres of previously unused space on the museum's grounds into an ADA-accessible natural play area will be a wonderful introduction to nature play for the thousands of children that annually visit the museum.

Among the features of the nature play area will be a monumental natural material sculpture from internationally renowned artist Patrick Dougherty.
