Be part of a new community science movement, and contribute to the region's species inventory! 

     The Powell Butte Eco-Blitz is part of a region wide, on-going Eco-Blitz Series to find and collect data on the Portland-Vancouver metro area's wildlife. Portland Parks and Rec, in partnership with Johnson Creek Watershed Council and National Park Service, is hosting a Portland based Eco-Blitz on Powell Butte. Scientists and volunteers of all ages and backgrounds work together to compile a "snapshot" of ecodiversity in a one day event.

    In this Eco-Blitz event, we will be conducting 3 different species surveys: Amphibians, Butterflies and Birds. Volunteers choose a time slot where they will go out in a group with an expert to conduct a survey to monitor their designated species. No experience is necessary and instruction will be facilitated day of event. This event is free and open to all ages. Volunteers should arrive at least 15 minutes before their chosen time slot.

All materials, snacks/drinks and instruction provided. Wear long thick pants, a long-sleeved shirt and sturdy shoes. Bring a water bottle, rain gear and sunhat. Bathrooms available on site.

The Eco-Blitz Series aims to:

Raise awareness of biodiversity
Generate appreciation of natural resources
Establish a shared effort among science professionals, educators and the general public

Team up with Resources for Health to remove the invasive English Ivy in the woods of Hamby Park! By working to eliminate the destructive monoculture created by the ivy, we'll make room for native plants to thrive and improve the trails for community members to enjoy. Tools and gloves are provided by the City of Hillsboro, and don't forget your reusable water bottle! Stay after the event for an Ivy Basket Weaving Workshop Fundraiser! Ivy removed at the morning event will be used for the Ivy Basket Weaving Workshop, co-hosted by the Hillsboro Food Co-Op. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the Hillsboro Food Co-Op startup, and support a community-supported venue for affordable local, high-quality, and healthy food. Join volunteers for this monthly Third Saturday Cleanup in Northwest Portland. Pick up litter and remove graffiti in the area. Join us for some coffee and conversation afterward. Volunteers should come prepared with completed waiver forms (if possible) and work gloves on cold days. Activities include: Litter Cleanup.

Join the Indian Creek Stewards for a morning planting native trees and shrubs along Indian Creek at our newest restoration site. This site had been invaded with blackberry, knapweed, and other nasty weeds over they years. Local citizens are now working to restore the riparian and floodplain habitat to a healthy plant community and we need your help! Activities include: Native Planting.

Join the Rock Creek Partnership on Saturday, March 12th in Happy Valley for our fifth annual Watershed Wide Event! We'll be planting a wide diversity of native trees and shrubs to create a hedgerow on the property that will attract native pollinators and contribute to watershed health. No experience is necessary and all are welcome -- families, neighbors, and friends! There will be live music, a delicious variety of breakfast snacks and coffee/tea provided to all volunteers, as well as raffle prizes! The staging site will once again be the Galaxy Barn at Pendarvis Farm - site of the renowned Pickathon Music Festival. Parking is limited at the Pendarvis farm so we ask that all volunteers meet us at the nearby Happy Valley City Hall where shuttles will bring you to the farm. Plan to arrive by 8:30-8:45am at City Hall to leave enough time after arriving at the farm to get registered and assigned to a crew, as well as to enjoy hot coffee and breakfast treats. The event will wrap-up around 1:00pm. Rock Creek is an important tributary of the Clackamas River, which provides high quality drinking water to more than 300,000 people and provides critical habitat for many sensitive species of plants, fish and wildlife. The Rock Creek Partnership works with landowners to revitalize streamside habitats by removing invasive species, such as blackberry and ivy, and replanting the areas with native vegetation. Restoring native plant communities grows a canopy over our creeks, which filters drinking water, provides wildlife habitat, and increases property value.
