Weeds - we all have them. Come learn about the most common garden and landscape weeds along with some of the other more notorious plant invaders of the region. We will explain how these aggressive plants take over in your yard, and provide simple yet effective tips that will help you get the upper hand without turning to synthetic herbicides. This workshop provides a quick overview of mason bees and their most common pest, the Krombein mite (also known as the pollen mite).  Attendees are encouraged to bring in their mason bee nesting devices to work on extracting the cocoons and cleaning them with a dry sand process.  Mason bee nesting trays used at Jackson Bottom Wetlands will also be available for attendees to clean so that they can get a hands on experience of what is involved in this important step in raising mason bees. Attendees will take home their own mason bee cocoons.

Experiment with making string by hand from plants growing wild in our area, then work on creating a small string basket pouch (small enough to wear as a necklace). Be ready to work your brain and fingers as you learn the techniques to make string into a functional and beautiful form. Materials provided - Bring scissors, patience, and curiosity.

Interested in the animals that live on Mt Hood?  Love to snowshoe?  Join the Wolverine Tracking Project and help search for rare carnivores and other wildlife on Mt Hood.  Develop animal tracking skills, enjoy group trips in a winter wonderland, and help increase knowledge of rare wildlife.  

There are 5 sets of training dates to choose from.  Survey trips take place all winter long.

Fourth set of training dates:

Classroom session: Monday, Nov 21, 6:30-8:30pm, at Cascadia Wild, 5431 NE 20th Ave.

Field session: Saturday, Nov 26, 9-noon, at Oxbow Park.
