Spring is a great time of year to see and identify the birds of Cooper Mountain since they are in their full breeding plumage and singing up a storm. Join Metro naturalist and expert birder
James Davis for this bird walk for beginners and intermediate birdwatchers. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair on-site, and be sure to dress for standing outside on an open hilltop. Explore Cooper Mountain with Metro Naturalist and animal tracker Deb Scrivens. Controlled burns have encouraged a proliferation of native wildflowers. This walk will focus on wildflowers, but if we are very lucky we will spot the elusive Lazuli Bunting or perhaps a Western Bluebird. Bring a snack and plenty of water for this stroll. Journey into the forest to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature at night.  There are creatures that only come out at night so it is a perfect opportunity to see and hear them. Spend the first part of the program indoors learning about our nocturnal residents then head out into the park for a guided night hike. Join us to search the park for nighttime bugs. We will try a variety of
techniques: light traps, beat sheets, log rolling and more. Suitable for ages 6 years - Adult.  Children must be registered with, and accompanied by a registered adult.  Advanced registration required; call 503/629-6350.

Get up close to nocturnal animals' pelts and skulls and listen to the mysterious sounds of the creatures of the night. We'll also learn about tracks and other animal clues that you can look for in the day that will show you what animals have passed by in the night.

Introduce your little one to nature! Join a naturalist on a stroller safari through the Nature Park. Take time to listen to nature, sing a song, share a story or explore as you enjoy a stroll through the park. Only one registration per family is necessary. Make sure to dress for the weather. Recommended for children 3 to 24 months.
