Summer Eco-Team for Teens!

Monday, July 9 - Friday, July 13; 9:00 am - 3:00 pm daily.

Spend a week (or more!) volunteering, learning about nature and building job skills.

Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) City Nature is sponsoring a Summer Eco-Team for youth aged 14-18. These unpaid volunteer teams work in natural areas around the city, keeping our urban green spaces beautiful, healthy, and safe for people and wildlife. Each week, Eco-Team teens work on a variety of activities ranging from caring for native plants and removing invasive weeds to building fences and monitoring wildlife. Teams will begin and end the day at the Portland Boathouse (1515 SE Water, Portland OR 97214; accessible through multiple tri-met options: www.tri-met.org). Transportation will be provided to and from all work sites from here. Snacks and water will be provided, but participants are expected to bring a packed lunch. Summer Eco-Teams will take place the following weeks: July 9-13, August 6-10 and August 13-17.

Stewardship Saturday at Tryon Creek

Saturday, June 16, 2012 - 9:00am to 12:00pm
Add to Calendar
Friends of Tryon Creek
Address:
11321 SW Terwilliger Blvd
Portland, OR
United States

Friends of Tryon Creek hosts “Stewardship Saturday” every Saturday from 9 a.m. - noon.

Stewardship Saturdays are an excellent opportunity for interested members of the public to get out in nature and play an active role in the protection and restoration of Tryon Creek State Natural Area, Oregon’s only urban state park. Volunteers assist with trail maintenance and help remove English ivy, an invasive weed that overtakes and kills native plants, as well as garlic mustard, blackberry, and other not-native invasive species.

Ivy Pull

Pull together to remove invasive English ivy and to protect our forest. Ivy out competes our native plants, takes over the forest floor and ruins precious habitat.

Trail Maintenance

Work with other volunteers to maintain trails and keep them safe and clean. Projects may include digging out paths for rain water, spreading gravel and clearing culverts.
