Join Friends of Trees and other awesome volunteers like you as we build communities and plant trees in West Vancouver on Saturday, February 20th!

We are planting in all West Vancouver Neighborhoods, including: Arnada, Carter Park, Edgewood Park, Fourth Plain Village, Fruit Valley, Hough, Lincoln, Northwest, Rose Village, Shumway.

Please arrive to the staging site by 8:45am to enjoy some FREE hot coffee, hot cocoa, tea, and breakfast treats. The planting starts promptly at 9:00am. We provide gloves and tools, so all you need to do is show up dressed for the weather and wearing sturdy shoes. Our neighborhood volunteers will also provide a potluck lunch for all volunteers after the planting is complete!

Looking to volunteer as a group? RSVPs are kindly requested for groups of more than 5 people - click HERE to do so. RSVPs are not required for individuals or groups of 4 or fewer -- you can simply show up!

Join us as we contribute to the MLK Jr. Day of Service with some outdoor work. Work will include some brush removal, invasive species removal, and possibly some weather related tasks. It should be awfully fun and a great way to get dirty with some fine folks.

Stream Team Captain Training

This is a three-day training on January 26, 28 & 30. Training Schedule: Tuesday, January 26, 6-8:30 pm at the SOLVE office: stewardship, watershed basics, restoration strategies, and examples. Thursday, January 28, 6-8:30 pm at the SOLVE office: community involvement, working w/ volunteers, work-party management, and leadership techniques. Saturday, January 30, 10am - 3pm: FIELD DAY - Location To Be Determined: project examples, planting techniques, invasive plant removal techniques, and native plant identification. Stream Team Captains lead volunteers on stream restoration and enhancement projects throughout the Portland-metro area. SOLVE adopts restoration sites for three to five years working with volunteers, community groups, crews, agencies and other non-profit partners to improve the health and function of stream corridors and wetlands. Stream Team Captains provide leadership, organization and supervision to volunteers for Saturday morning events. Stream Team Captains also instruct volunteers in invasive plant removal techniques and proper planting techniques while working closely with SOLVE staff to fulfill stream restoration and enhancement goals. Upon completion of this training, Stream Team Captains commit to lead at least three Team Up volunteer events involving planting native species, invasive plant removal, native plant identification, mulching, and watering. Additional training in basic botany, bioengineering, advanced classes in native and invasive plant ID, as well as winter twig ID are also available to Stream Team Captains during the course of the year.

Here's your chance to learn how to make a difference in your community! Join SOLVE for a free, hands-on workshop on where you'll learn how to create and lead successful volunteer projects to improve our environment and your community. We'll be covering the basics of watershed restoration, project planning, outreach techniques and all of the tools available for your projects through SOLVE. Specific topics include volunteer recruitment and management, project logistics and safety, preventing volunteer burnout, working with the media, and fundraising. Bring along ideas on projects you would like to start and receive feedback to get you started that day. The training is free for anyone that leads a SOLVE project within one year of the training. Lunch is provided!
