This forested park is a hidden gem. When you enter the mixed hardwood forest on the edge of a small canyon, you'll sense the cool and calm that is felt from being someplace further away. Cedar Mill Creek pours down the center of a wooded valley with a 1,500-foot-long paved trail clinging to the hillside above. The trail winds through groves of alder, big-leaf maple, Douglas fir, and western redcedar, and leads to an overlook of the confluence of the Cedar Mill and Kitchen Creeks. Owls can be heard at night and some have spotted the occasional flying squirrel gliding through the trees.
Jonsrud Viewpoint Park is a designated stop on the Oregon Scenic Byway. Stroll the brick pathways, look through the telescope, and enjoy spectacular views of Mt. Hood and the Sandy River Valley as well as informational signs about the Barlow Road, part of the Oregon Trail.
This powerline park is part of a larger trail system and has a playground as well as community gardens.
John B. Yeon Scenic Corridor honors a man who gave generously of his time and professional skills. He was one of the principal architects of the Historic Columbia River Highway (US 30); a major portion of the scenic highway joins I-84 westbound at Yeon State Park. Here is a hiker's paradise with a gentle rising trail that permits access to two of the most beautiful and secluded waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge: (lower) Elowah Falls and (upper) McCord Creek falls. Elowah Falls is a 289 foot drop over basalt that must be seen to appreciate.
