Often called Creekside Marsh, the Koll Center Wetlands is a fun place to visit and is rich in wildlife. The marsh is easily viewed from the parking lot on the north and eastern edges, but the south end of the pond provides and elevated vantage of the area. It is common to see osprey wheeling over the pond, the occasional bald eagle searching for a fat catfish, and great egrets foraging along the pond edges.
Knez Wetalnd is a beautiful, wet-prairie and emergent wetland with a small, but very important little tributary of Fanno Creek flowing along the edge of the preserve. Knez Preserve, although small, supports a variety of avian species, such as White egrets, Great blue herons, Common mergansers, Wood ducks and dragonflies. The preserve also provides much needed habitat for our state mammal, the beaver. The Knez Preserve is one of the few known tufted hairgrass prairies in the Portland Metro area, a plant community in great decline in the Willamette Valley.
This natural area is a great place to find solitude at stream-side sitting areas within a pleasant riparian corridor along both sides of Johnson Creek. There is a single out-and-back trail paralleling the creek channel. The riffle-pool complex along this stretch of the creek is reminiscent of what much of Johnson Creek must have been like prior to human settlement. The entrance to the park is at the south end of the single-lane, unpaved 141st Avenue that dead-ends at the trailhead.
Facilities at the park include a half-court basketball court, an open play area, and a children's playground. Trails through the wooded area offer nature viewing and an overlook of Beaver Creek Canyon.
