Explore Sauvie Island in search of magnificent eagles, hawks and falcons that spend the winter here. On this special day devoted to raptors, naturalists and hawk experts host activities at four locations around the island. Enjoy guided bird viewing, meet live raptors up close and see hawk identification displays. Free hot drinks and donuts will be available in the morning.

Check in at Kruger's Farm Market, and receive a one-day Sauvie Island Wildlife Area parking permit, event guide, birding map, checklist, and picture handouts to help identify birds of prey. Allow about three hours to visit all the stations. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather. Sponsored by the Audubon Society of Portland, Metro, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and HawkWatch International.   No advance registration is required. $10/vehicle upon arrival, cash only please.

In this family-oriented class, learn the basics of building a winter survival shelter that can keep a person safe and warm without the aid of a sleeping bag or a fire. Winter Solstice at the Landfill

Winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year and is followed by the gradual return of the light.  Come celebrate the end and the beginning of this cycle by walking the prairie and ash forest at the St. John's Landfill. Plant Off a Victory!

November 2014 -- The Intertwine Plant Off on Saturday, Nov. 1, was a smashing success. Two teams of youth organizers led tree-planting events at Dirksen Nature Park and Blue Lake Park. Members of the Sugar Skulls on the west side, and the Green Team on the east, received real-world job experience (and pay) for their participation -- along with a free pair of KEENs each! Westmoreland Park Grand Reopening and Salmon Celebration

Westmoreland Park, SE Bybee and 22nd, will celebrate the long-awaited restoration and "re-meandering" of Crystal Springs Creek through the Park with a Grand Reopening and Salmon Celebration, Saturday October 25th, 11am to 4pm.

Hosted by the Crystal Springs Partnership, the event will feature many activities, including games, crafts, hikes, a salmon bake and opportunities to experience the new nature-based play area.

Planning for Plant Off Under Way

September 2014 -- The tree-planting project that was part of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) grant that The Intertwine Alliance received in 2013 is well under way with two teams of teens recruiting community volunteers to participate; they will give a report at the fall summit on Nov 14.
