We are kicking off our planting season and we hope you will join us!  World Wetlands Day is February 2 and we will be celebrating all month with native planting parties!  Snacks and tools provided.  

Also during the month of February, we will be co-hosting a worldwide wetlands photo contest for 15-24 year olds with the Ramsar Convention (an international treaty to ensure the conservation and wise use of wetlands everywhere).  Submit your wetland photo during World Wetlands Month and win a trip to a wetland of your choice, anywhere in the world!  Bring a friend, plant a tree, and take a picture to submit to the photo contest with us!

Stewardship Saturday at Columbia Springs

Have fun and help out at Columbia Springs! We will work on several projects around our site and end with a guided nature walk. Projects may include gardening, painting, trail maintenance, and more. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Children under 14 are welcome with parent or guardian supervision and teens under 16 with parent or guardian permission. Snacks and tools provided. Please bring sturdy shoes, appropriate outdoor work clothing, a water bottle, and your enthusiasm for helping the community! Westmoreland Park Grand Reopening and Salmon Celebration

Westmoreland Park, SE Bybee and 22nd, will celebrate the long-awaited restoration and "re-meandering" of Crystal Springs Creek through the Park with a Grand Reopening and Salmon Celebration, Saturday October 25th, 11am to 4pm.

Hosted by the Crystal Springs Partnership, the event will feature many activities, including games, crafts, hikes, a salmon bake and opportunities to experience the new nature-based play area.

Family Fun on the Farm

Join us for a day of fun and learning at Family Fun on the Farm day, brought to you by Metro. School is out for the day and you're invited to Sauvie Island Center's first-ever Family Farm Day on Tuesday, November 11th from 10 am to 1 pm. We'll explore the 16-acre Sauvie Island Organics farm and the grounds of Howell Territorial Park while learning about food, farming and the land. Our staff will guide you and your family through an exploration of our curriculum, designed for elementary school-aged children, including:

-Soil Exploration. Dig in and learn about healthy soil.
-Seed to Harvest. Plant, tend and harvest the Grow Lunch Garden.
-Healthy Snacks. Harvest fresh veggies and use them to create yummy snacks!
-Plant Parts Investigation. Explore the farm and plants we can eat.
-Wildlife & Food web. Who else has been foraging on the farm?
-Pollination Station. Meet these hard-working farm friends.

David Harrelson will speak about The Native People of the Tualatin River, Past, Present and Future Directions.

David Harrelson is Kalapuya and a member of The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon. David works for his community as the Program Manager of the Tribal Historic Preservation Office (THPO) at Grand Ronde. David's interests include the cultural use of plants, contact era history of the Pacific Northwest, and maintenance of ecological systems through traditional land management.

This talk is presented as a cooperative effort of Tigard Library, Tualatin Riverkeepers and The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Community of Oregon.
