Spring Park Planting and Restoration Tour

Willamette Riverkeeper, North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District, the Island Station Neighborhood, and the North Clackamas Urban Watershed Council invite you to join us for a fall planting event at  Spring Park Natural Area. The park is currently undergoing a major restoration to both the trail system and the Willamette River side channel adjacent to the park. This planting event will be your first opportunity to see all the major improvements and learn more about this details of this exciting restoration project. Ultimately, the project will be of great benefit to fish, wildlife, and our community- and this is your chance to get involved by helping us to plant the old trail!

When: Saturday, 11/21 from 9:00am - 12:00pm

Details: Please wear sturdy and shoes, dress for the weather and bring water! Gloves and other planting tool supplies will be provided. By volunteering at this event you will receive a discount on dinner at Amadeus Manor.  All ages and abilities are welcome to attend, and better yet, lunch will be provided by Cha-Cha-Cha!

This Natural Area is owned and managed by North Clackamas Parks and Recreation. Volunteers will meet at the main entrance to Spring Park which is located at 1880 S.E. Sparrow St. in Milwaukie. There is limited street parking so for this event, parking is available at the nearby Amadeus Manor.

Family Volunteer Day at Dahl Park

This is a family adventure located at a beautiful location at the confluence of the Clackamas and Willamette rivers. This is a family friendly site. Age appropriate tools are provided. The confluence is an important location for both juvenile and adult salmon. Osprey can often be seen in the area. This native tree planting project is part of a larger stream restoration project initiated by the Clackamas River Basin Council. Volunteers will be planting native trees like western red cedar, and native shrubs like salmonberry and indian plum. Volunteers will also be mulching and installing live willow stakes. Native plantings help filter pollutants, provide shade, and improve fish and wildlife habitat.

NWDA November Third Saturday Cleanup

Join volunteers for this monthly Third Saturday Cleanup in Northwest Portland. Pick up litter and remove graffiti in the area. Join us for some coffee and conversation afterward. Planting at Hallinan Creek

We are starting to replant our Hallinan Creek site and we need your help! We spent last summer removing harmful invasive plants from this creek area and we are ready to plant native species. The plants we will be installing provide great benefit to our local forests and creeks. Tools, gloves, and snacks provided. Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves. This project is part of an ongoing effort since our group adopted the park in 2010 to replace destructive monoculture with native plants and make trails more inviting for the community to enjoy. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, Litter Cleanup, Trail Maintenance.

Volunteers will be planting native trees like western red cedar, and native shrubs like thimbleberry. Volunteers will also be installing coffee bags as a weed barrier and mulching.Planting native trees and shrubs will help shade the stream, prevent erosion and improve fish and wildlife habitat.

Heron Pointe Wetland is degraded by the presence of an invasive grass:reed canary grass. Volunteers will be planting native willow, Oregon ash as well as native shrubs like douglas spirea. Volunteers will also be installing coffee bags as a weed barrier and mulching. Native plants will add needed biodiversity improving the overall health of the wetland.
