Get outside after school and explore the natural world. Join friends as you enjoy a new nature topic each week through hikes, games and crafts. Classes will take place outside, weather permitting. Please dress for the outdoors; snacks will be provided. Suitable for ages 7 - 10 years. Advanced registration required.

Would your child like to get a sneak peak of nature preschool? Join together with friends for an introduction to preschool with crafts, walks, stories, games and songs in the classroom and along the trail. Discover the beautiful colors of spring in the Nature Park. Create May Day baskets, play in the meadow and take part in a May Pole dance! For ages 3-5.

Want to learn by doing? If you like to get your hands dirty, join the Watershed Stewards and Clark County to build a rain garden at a new "green built" Habitat for Humanity home. Rain gardens collect rainwater from your roofs in a shallow depression in a yard.  Rain gardens help filter runoff and recharge groundwater. Rain gardens provide beauty and an easy way for all of us to take care of our streams and rivers and the plants and animals that rely on them. Participants will learn about designing, building, and maintaining rain gardens.

The workshop is presented by the Watershed Stewards, a partnership of Washington State University Clark County Extension and Clark County Environmental Services Clean Water Program.

April is prime time for avian spring migration, and in Forest Park birds are going full swing. With the blossoming of red alder buds and big leaf maple catkins, colorful assemblages of warblers, vireos, and western tanagers come flocking to feast. Author and biologist Marcy Houle will teach how to identify the colorful songbirds by using easy to learn techniques.

Come take a walk through the woods and learn to read the stories in the trees. Learn to identify the native trees (even from a moving car!), where different species are found and why they are there, how to deduce the history of the stand, and how to recognize common tree diseases. Topics include tree ecology, shade tolerance and its importance, forest succession and disturbance history, habitat types, health and history of individual trees, and forest insects and diseases.
Location: Lost Creek Campground area on the Mt Hood National Forest. Carpooling to site is encouraged.
