July 14th, 2013:
12pm- 4pm

Experience Chinookan Native American Culture, traditional basketry techniques of our Region, and enjoy the many hiking and wildlife watching opportunities of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge!

The Columbia Basin Basketry Guild (www.basketryguild.org) will be in the Plankhouse demonstrating materials and techniques traditionally used in basketry of this region. Included will be cedar bark preparation and weaving of Pacific NW Coast sweetgrass, tule and cattail. There will also be special activities for children all day. Try your hand making rope from native plants or mini cattail mats. Learn about local Native American culture first hand in the Plankhouse, and take a walk down the adjacent nature trail and see if you can find the many kinds of wildlife that call the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge Home.

Join Friends of Trees for an evening work party to care for young trees (Damascus)!

Thursday, July 18, 2013 - 5:15pm to 7:30pm
Friends of Trees
Address:
Doss Farm
21771 SE Tillstrom Rd
Damascus, OR 97089
United States

Help our new trees and shrubs planted in March survive through their first summer season! As a volunteer you'll learn native plant identification and care techniques with Friends of Trees staffers and volunteers, as well as help maintain the new native plants through mulching recently planted trees and shrubs. Without these efforts these newly planted natives would have a lower survival rate through their first season. Meet great new people, learn tree skills, and make a difference in just a couple hours!

Please arrive around 5:15pm to sign in and get assigned to a crew. The tree care event will start promptly at 5:30pm. We'll provide some snacks and cool beverages, as well as gloves, tools and guidance. Please come dressed for the weather and wearing sturdy shoes and get ready to have fun!

This is a project undertaken as an endeavor of the Rock Creek Partnership to restore streamside areas along this tributary to the Clackamas River. It is supported by the Service District #1 of Water Environment Services of Clackamas County.
