Join the Estuary Partnership for a family friendly paddle on Lacamas Lake (Camas, WA) aboard two 34' canoes. Estuary Partnership staff will be on each canoe to steer, offer paddling advice, and share information about the surrounding ecosystem.

Who can paddle? Children ages 5 and up and adults are welcome. Previous paddling experience is not necessary. We can often accommodate paddlers with special needs with advance notice. Paddlers must be able to step 2.5 feet down into the canoe and sit on a wooden bench for over an hour.

Volunteer Trail Work Party - Vancouver Lake

Join Washington Trails Association (WTA) volunteers for a morning of giving back to trails with this 1/2 day work party.  WTA offers a series of Saturday volunteer trail maintenance events aimed at engaging youth and families in near-town stewardship projects. But the "Young at Heart" are welcome too. These events are on every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month at parks and trails nearby.

This Saturday the crew will be constructing a new trail that will meander between Vancouver Lake and Buckmire Slough.

WTA provides all tools and instruction plus post work party refreshments. No prior experience with trail work needed, just a willingness to lend a hand.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn the basics of springtime pest and disease assessment and fruit thinning to increase the health and abundance of local fruit trees! This fun workshop will be an opportunity to gain a basic understanding of the different types of pests and diseases commonly found in the Portland area as well as the importance and how-to of fruit thinning. If you have samples of pest and/or disease affected fruit, leaves, or twigs - please bring them to the workshop in a sealed container so we can try to ID them.

About the instructor:

Heidi Noordijk studied horticulture at Michigan State University and Cornell University - specializing in pomology (tree fruits). Heidi has participated in research projects involving apple tree physiology, berry production, and tree fruit entomology. Heidi has also worked on various orchards and farms in the PNW and east coast.Heidi currently works for OSU's Small Farms program.

We'll see how to shell, grind, process and leach acorns so that they transform into wonderful additions to breads, muffins, pancakes, and pudding. By the end of the workshop we'll have gone from bitter acorns in the shell to a sweet acorn pudding that any normal human would enjoy. Also learn how to make a distillation setup from simple kitchen ware.
