There are tons of family friendly events to choose from across the state, with new projects added daily. You can even start a project of your own! Just a few hours on a Saturday will result in improved water quality, increased wildlife habitat and carbon storage to slow climate change. Nature Nuts Summer Camp at Columbia Springs

At Going Green Summer Camp, your child will explore, forage, play, and learn about sustainability and the natural world through hands-on activities and crafts. Join forces with the Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership, Willamette Riverkeeper and Portland Parks & Recreation for a Big Canoe adventure to Ross Island Natural Area! Meet at Willamette Park and paddle in a 29' canoe to Ross Island. Once on the island, we'll work to enhance wildlife habitat by removing invasive species and learn more about the flora and fauna that call Ross Island home.

Big Canoe trips are open to the public and are suitable for ages 6 and up. Previous paddling experience is not necessary. Life jackets, paddles, canoes, gloves, tools and guides are provided.

Join Clark County staff at Whipple Creek Hollow, one of our key urban wildlife areas in the heart of Salmon Creek, for a volunteer work party.  Join a team to help restore trails and trailheads throughout the site. This 40-acre site hosts a variety of upland trees, flowers and wildlife.  Enjoy a hike through the site after the work party is complete and learn about the restoration efforts along Whipple Creek.  Light refreshments will be provided but bring a water bottle.  RSVP suggested.

Stewardship Saturday at Columbia Springs

Have fun, learn, and help out at Columbia Springs! This family-friendly event is a great opportunity for community members to participate in environmental restoration and projects that improve Columbia Springs' 100-acre natural area and the historic Vancouver Trout Hatchery. Projects may include gardening, painting, trail maintenance, and more. Every Stewardship Saturday includes a lesson about local ecology to start the day and concludes with a fun activity like a craft or nature hike. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Children under 14 are welcome with parent or guardian supervision and teens under 16 with parent or guardian permission. Snacks and tools provided. Please bring sturdy shoes, appropriate outdoor work clothing, a water bottle, and your enthusiasm for helping the community!
