Stewardship Saturday at Columbia Springs

Have fun and help out at Columbia Springs! We will work on several projects around our site and end with a fun activity. Projects may include gardening, painting, trail maintenance, and more. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Children under 14 are welcome with parent or guardian supervision and teens under 16 with parent or guardian permission. Snacks and tools provided. Please bring sturdy shoes, appropriate outdoor work clothing, a water bottle, and your enthusiasm for helping the community! Join the Estuary Partnership for Love Your Columbia, Clean up Sand Island volunteer event. Participants will paddle on the Columbia River in the Estuary Partnership's

16 passenger canoe from the St. Helens public dock to Sand Island.  While on the island, volunteers will remove invasive plants and clean up the beach. Estuary Partnership staff will be on the canoe to steer, offer paddling advice, and share information about the Columbia River ecosystem.

Young Woman's Nature Skills Program Open House, Rewild Portland

Rewild Portland is hosting a drop in open house for their Young Woman's Nature Skills program, August 30th, 1pm - 3pm

Our year-long mentoring program for girls ages 10-12 focuses on building character, leadership, and healthy feminine relationships through the exploration of nature, story, art, and earth living skills. We will meet twice a month for a full year and the program will culminate with a participant designed camping trip to practice the skills used throughout the year. 

Open House, August 30th, 1pm-3pm, Washington Park Archery Range
Families and girls interested in this program are invited to come to a casual, Drop In, 'open house' at the Washington Park Archery Range to meet program facilitators Sarah Hill and Kymberly Klein, ask questions, and experiment with a few of the skills we will be exploring together throughout the year. This open house is right before the monthly Free Skills Series event, Basketry and Berry picking. Families are welcome to stay after the open house for the Free Skills Series class from 3pm - 6pm

Every 1st and 3rd Saturday through October the Washington Trails Association (WTA) hosts a morning work party at a nearby park from 9am to 12pm.

WTA provides all tools and instruction at these events that are geared towards youth, families and the young at heart (all ages welcome!)

This Saturday we're at Whipple Creek Regional Park in Clark County near Ridgefield, WA. The park features an extensive trail network that offers multiple loop options through lush Douglas-fir forest--an shaded oasis reminiscent of Old-Growth groves in the western Cascades.

This 300-acre regional park is located off Northwest 179th Avenue west of the Clark County Fairgrounds. The main feature of this park is 4.3 miles of trails that cater to hikers and horseback riders alike. The Whipple Creek Park Restoration Committee and volunteers marshaled by Clark County Parks are working to improve trails to make using the parking during winter months less of a muddy experience for equestrians, joggers, hikers and mountain bikers. This park is also an exceptionally pristine and tranquil forest environment and is home to many types of wildlife, including woodpeckers, hawks, deer, flying squirrels, herons, and beavers. Opportunities abound for wildlife viewing.
