Park After Dark: Sounds of the Night

Journey into the forest to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature at night.  There are creatures that only come out at night so it is a perfect opportunity to see and hear them. Spend the first part of the program indoors learning about our nocturnal residents then head out into the park for a guided night hike. Suitable for ages 6 years - Adult.  Children must be registered with, and accompanied by a registered adult.  Advanced registration required; call 503/629-6350.

We will explore the park to find out who is out at night, where they are and what sounds they make. We will listen for some of our nocturnal residents including coyotes and bats.

Girl Scouts Day at Cooper Mountain Nature Park

Explore our newest nature park with activities geared toward Girl Scouts of all ages.  Visit with a female park ranger and naturalists to learn about how these women help take care of these natural habitats.  Hike through the park while stopping for hands-on activities and learn about the flora and fauna that make this park their home, including wildflowers, Western Bluebirds, bobcats and more! Leave having completed steps towards Bugs, Flowers, Hiker and Animal Habitats Badges.

Scouts will complete requirements for the Wildlife Conservation Academic Pin and Webelo Naturalist Badge.  Take this opportunity to learn through local, real-life examples about how we care for our natural resources and the wildlife living in this urban park.

It's mating season, so the pacific chorus frogs are living up to their name. Learn about frogs and sing a few songs of our own. After dinner, we'll head into the park to search for frogs and other amphibians.

Newts are fascinating animals. Learn all about their unique characteristics as we discuss unking, metamorphosis and toxic secretions. Head out into the park to hunt for newts on the trail and under logs.

Mammals are a diverse group of animals.  Ranging in size from one inch to 108 feet, they can be found on land, sea and in the air.  Learn what mammals live in the park, and make a bandana tracking guide to wear on hikes.
