Wolverine Tracking Project volunteer training

Interested in the animals that live on Mt Hood?  Love to snowshoe?  Join the Wolverine Tracking Project and help search for rare carnivores and other wildlife on Mt Hood.  Develop animal tracking skills, enjoy group trips in a winter wonderland, and help increase knowledge of rare wildlife.  

There are 5 sets of training dates to choose from.  Survey trips take place all winter long.

First set of training dates:

Classroom session: Tuesday, Nov 1, 6:30-8:30pm, at Cascadia Wild, 5431 NE 20th Ave.

Field session: Sunday, Nov 6, 9-noon, at Oxbow Park.

Friday, October 14th and Saturday, October 15th, join other tree enthusiasts for 2 days of trail work, re-potting plants, planting, ivy and blackberry removal, and other tasks. All volunteers will get a tee shirt and a swag bag! Most importantly, we'll be participating in the largest park wide volunteer event in the country and the Arboretum will be trying to host the largest group in the system!

-Tour length: 2 hours.

-Bicycle route: 3 miles each way on the Springwater Trail in outer Southeast Portland. Stops to learn about local ecology at several past restoration sites on Johnson Creek and Powell Butte.

Salmon Creek Volunteer Planting- October 8th: Dig it, Plant it, Do it Again!

Lower Columbia Estuary Partnership

Make a difference while having fun and exploring Salmon Creek Park, an urban wildlife greenway. Help plant trees to benefit the local habitat of Salmon Creek. Named for the historical salmon runs of the past, it recently regained its status as a salmon spawning ground thanks to the help of local volunteers. 

All ages welcome. Fun for groups, families and individuals. Registration is required and space is limited.

We provide: Tools, gloves, hot cocoa, coffee and snacks.

What to bring: Water bottle, snack, extra clothing, shoes for the ride home, and camera or binoculars if desired.

What to wear: Dress for the weather; clothes may get wet and muddy. Long sleeves, pants, rain gear and sturdy shoes or boots are recommended.

What to expect: Estuary Partnership staff will distribute tools and gloves and demonstrate planting techniques. Volunteers will be planting for approximately 2 1/2 hours.

Barrows Park Invasive Iris Blitz

Join forces with New Seasons Market & Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District to improve the natural areas that straddle Summer Creek in Barrows Park. This project will focus on removing invasive irises from the ponds in the park. New Seasons Market will provide breakfast snacks before the start of the project, between 8:30 - 9 a.m. Please bring a re-usable water bottle to drink from throughout the event. Tools, gloves, snacks and a water cooler will be provided. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, Litter Cleanup.

Gorge Fall Beach Cleanup

Help us clean up this recreational hotspot and top of the Sandy Watershed! As the upper portion of our Timberline to Troutdale Cleanup, the Salmon Headwaters Cleanup is focused on reducing trash with a watershed-wide impact. Coordinated by the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council and Snowrider Project, in partnership with the Mt. Hood National Forest Zigzag District, Timberline Lodge, and others. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome, just bring sturdy footwear, water, and appropriate clothing for mountain weather. Information about an after-party will be available soon. Fort Vancouver Riverside Beach Cleanup

We are beautifying Vancouver's waterfront! This project will primarily involve picking up litter along the Columbia River east of the I-5 within the property of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. Gloves, trash bags, and trash picker-uppers will be provided. Lunch break planned around noon-ish. There is no minimum time requirement, you can can for 50 minutes or the full 3 hours! We appreciate all the help that we can get!
