The City of Seaside, Seaside Downtown Development Association, and Beach Drive Buccaneers invite you to join with us in cleaning up marine debris on our favorite Oregon Beach. Organized cleanups will take place, rain or shine, the first Saturday of every month. Sign in at The Seashore Inn on the Beach, 60 N. Prom, Seaside, get your bag, and, when done, drop it in a trash receptacle along the Prom. Stay the day and enjoy our shops and restaurants.

Friends of Baltimore Woods is teaming up with SOLVE to help restore a vital urban Oak Woodland.  Join us August 1st for invasive plant removal and mulching native trees to improve habitat and water quality.  Tools and gloves, as well as drinking water, will be provided onsite (but feel free to bring your own water bottle too).  This can be messy work, so please wear appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes.

Improve your community at the SOLVE Beach & Riverside Cleanup, Sept. 19

For over three decades Oregonians have been proving that by volunteering at the annual SOLVE Beach & Riverside Cleanup, presented by the Oregon Lottery. It's an easy, fun way to get outside, meet your neighbors, and make a difference by cleaning up Oregon's rivers, beaches, parks and trails, removing invasive plants or planting plant native trees and shrubs.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn the basic techniques of bud grafting (budding). This method of grafting will allow you to combine different varieties and species of fruit into a single tree more quickly and with greater success rates than other grafting methods. This fun workshop will be an opportunity for you to gain a basic understanding of different bud grafting methods and when they should be used.

About the instructor: 
Rick Shory has always worked with plants. In addition to gardening, he has grown and pruned fruit trees, including over 30 years experience grafting. In 2010, he returned to the Pacific Northwest after ten years in Colorado, where he worked in environmental field research and had a home orchard and permaculture. His botanical specialization is grasses.

The Weed Warrior Stewardship Coordinator and volunteer crew leaders will share their knowledge of the natural habitat, demonstrate how to remove non-native vegetation, and help keep us organized, safe and motivated! We will make sure that you are comfortable and contribute in ways that match your skills and interests. Here's your chance to learn how to make a difference in your community! Join SOLVE for a hands-on workshop where you'll learn how to envision and lead successful volunteer projects to improve the environment in your community. Participants will learn the basics of watershed restoration, planning stages, outreach techniques and will be exposed to all of the tools available for their projects through SOLVE. Specific topics include volunteer recruitment and management, project logistics and safety, preventing volunteer burnout, working with the media, and fundraising. This time of year the lake needs your help removing litter build up.

This project is part of an ongoing effort since our group adopted the park in 2010 to replace destructive monoculture with native plants and make trails more inviting for the community to enjoy.
