Wildlife Tracking: A Three-Part Series

Description: Through their daily travels, wildlife leave behind stories on the landscape. This three-part series kicks off with an evening lecture at a pub, covering the fundamentals of animal tracking. During two field days, participants will build skills reading and interpreting tracks and sign. Locations and directions will be sent to registered participants. Title:  Smith and Bybee Wetlands Canoe and Kayak Tour

Description:   Join Metro naturalist Ashley Conley to learn about the wildlife and natural history of one of the country's largest urban wetlands. Alder Creek Kayak and Canoe will provide boats, paddles, floatation devices and instruction. Two adults in a canoe can add one or two young children.  Detailed information about what to bring will be provided to registered participants.

Family Turtle Walk at Smith and Bybee Wetlands

Learn about the natural history of painted turtles and handle and examine shells of specimens found there.

Learn to build a rain garden! A rain garden is a sunken garden bed that captures stormwater and allows it to soak back into the ground naturally. This workshop provides step-by-step details on how to plan, design and build your own rain garden. You'll find out how to decide the best size & placement, which plants to choose, and how to maintain your new rain garden. Participants receive a free how-to manual, and where possible, take a field trip to a nearby rain garden. Space is limited and advanced registration is required.
