Help us clean up this recreational mecca and top of the Sandy Watershed! As the upper portion of our Timberline to Troutdale Cleanup, the Salmon Headwaters Cleanup is focused on reducing trash with a watershed-wide impact. Coordinated by the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council and Snowrider Project, in partnership with the Mt. Hood National Forest Zigzag District, Timberline Lodge, and others. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome, just bring sturdy footwear, water, and appropriate clothing for mountain weather. Information about an after-party will be available soon. The Umpqua Basin Cleanup is a month-long, self-directed cleanup occurring throughout September, starting on Saturday,9/5 and running through Saturday, 9/26. Bags, gloves, and site/safety information are available at the Umpqua Valley Farmers' Market starting September 5, 9am-1pm, and each Saturday in September. Groups of 10 or more can call the PUR office to have cleanup supplies delivered during business hours. Activities include: Litter Cleanup.

Be a pirate! Volunteer for Aquifer Adventure!

Ahoy thar, matey! It's time to celebrate at Aquifer Adventure - our pirate themed groundwater festival! Join our volunteer crew for a swashbuckling adventure on the high sloughs, as the Portland Water Bureau and Columbia Slough Watershed Council team up to present a FREE, family-friendly event full of educational games, canoe rides, crafts and more! This is a big event for the Bureau and the Council - we've had over 800 pirates-in-training attend in past years - and we need your help to make this a huge success. Volunteers needed as parking lot greeters, welcome tent attendees, canoe and dock area hands (experience required) and as youth activity leaders! This is a great volunteer opportunity for groups and individuals age 14 and up! 

Volunteers are needed for the following shifts:

  • Shift 1: 8:00 AM - 11:00 AM (Set Up)
  • Shift 2: 11:30 AM - 4:00 PM (Event Shift)
  • Shift 3: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM (Clean up)

Volunteer Roles:

  • Set-up! (8am-11am): put up tents, unload canoes, set-up tables, put out signs, etc.
  • Canoe Captains and Deck Hands: help with lifejacket fittings, boat loading, or canoe guiding (some experience required)
  • Welcome Tent: greet visitors and explain event, have attendees sign waiver and give out wristbands
  • Parking Lot Greeter: welcome visitors, field questions, monitor parking lot
  • Games and Activity Leaders: guide participation for guests of all ages

Concordia & Boise Alley Cleanup

We will be partnering with Lewis & Clark College.70 of their students will be coming to our neighborhoods on Saturday, August 29th as a part of their New Student Orientation program, to help us with an Alley Cleanup event. Students will work with neighbors to clean up the alleys! We anticipate that we will need about 7 vouchers, as neighbors will be using their own light trucks to haul collected waste from alleys to Metro Central for disposal. We will take any re-useable items to Goodwill. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, Litter Cleanup.
