Each year thousands of volunteers head out to the beach to clear the entire Oregon coastline of litter and marine debris. On March 28th, you can be part of this monumental effort, celebrating 30 years of teamwork between coastal communities, volunteers, local haulers, sponsors and more. Join the 30th Annual SOLVE Spring cleanup event on Saturday, March 28th from 10 am to 1 pm! Your efforts will help protect people, wildlife and coastal economies, and keep our state beautiful. Take shelter! The driving wind and rain can be held at bay with simple skills that every squirrel depends on. In this family-oriented class, learn the basics of building a winter survival shelter that can keep a person safe and warm without the aid of a sleeping bag or a fire. Younger participants will have free time to build forts for fun. Preregistration required. $6/person, $11/family. All ages welcome.

Join us for a day of fun and learning at Family Fun on the Farm day, brought to you by Metro. School is out for the day and you're invited to Sauvie Island Center's first-ever Family Farm Day on Tuesday, November 11th from 10 am to 1 pm. We'll explore the 16-acre Sauvie Island Organics farm and the grounds of Howell Territorial Park while learning about food, farming and the land. Our staff will guide you and your family through an exploration of our curriculum, designed for elementary school-aged children, including:

-Soil Exploration. Dig in and learn about healthy soil.
-Seed to Harvest. Plant, tend and harvest the Grow Lunch Garden.
-Healthy Snacks. Harvest fresh veggies and use them to create yummy snacks!
-Plant Parts Investigation. Explore the farm and plants we can eat.
-Wildlife & Food web. Who else has been foraging on the farm?
-Pollination Station. Meet these hard-working farm friends.

As part of Northwest Children's Nature Play Week, Nature's marketing director, David Bond, will lead a gathering of Nature's marketing department. We will work in small groups to collaboratively discuss and create ideas to connect Oregon's children to nature and improve their health through improved opportunities for free play. We seek participation from a diverse group of talents including: Coder/Developers, Educators, Nature Geeks, Medical Professionals, Producers, Copywriters, Design Thinkers, Strategists, Communication Gurus, Funding Experts, Children's Advocates, Business Leaders, and Concerned Citizens. 

Our goal is to combine the skills, systems and experiences of a diverse group of individuals and organizations who can collectively work to overcome barriers, share ideas and initiate cooperative programs to get Oregon’s kids outdoors playing more often. Business leaders, government organizations, nonprofit organizations and private citizens interested in supporting and promoting healthy play and nature connection for children are invited to attend. More details here.
