Learn the basics of designing and maintaining a landscape that is beautiful and diverse while also conserving water, building soil, and creating habitat for birds and pollinators. Make a positive impact on your watershed with your landscaping decisions -and save time, money and energy doing it! The workshop includes a field trip to a nearby naturescaping project.

Join the Weed Warrior effort to restore a healthy habitat at Mt. Tabor Park. The Weed Warrior Stewardship Coordinator and volunteer crew leaders will share their knowledge of the natural habitat, demonstrate how to remove non-native vegetation, and help keep us organized, safe and motivated! We will make sure that you are comfortable and contribute in ways that match your skills and interests. Wear comfortable clothes that are appropriate for working in natural areas: long pants, long sleeves, brimmed hat to protect from sun/rain, and closed-toe sturdy shoes. Bring a water bottle. We provide you with tools, gloves, and snacks. Activities include: Invasive Plant Removal, Litter Cleanup.

Help us clean up this recreational mecca and top of the Sandy Watershed! As the upper portion of our Timberline to Troutdale Cleanup, the Salmon Headwaters Cleanup is focused on reducing trash with a watershed-wide impact. Coordinated by the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council and Snowrider Project, in partnership with the Mt. Hood National Forest Zigzag District, Timberline Lodge, and others. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome, just bring sturdy footwear, water, and appropriate clothing for mountain weather. Information about an after-party will be available soon. Join Oregon State Parks and others stewards by volunteering to spruce up Mayer State Park! By picking up litter and pulling invasive plant species we help ensure a clean and beautiful Oregon for all and can call ourselves true Oregonians. Following the clean up stay around for some fun in the Park. We will have coffee/coco, snacks, and offer kayak tours (as available) after we all do our part to keep Mayer State Park beautiful. The City of Seaside, Seaside Downtown Development Association, and Beach Drive Buccaneers invite you to join with us in cleaning up marine debris on our favorite Oregon Beach. Organized cleanups will take place, rain or shine, the first Saturday of every month. Sign in at The Seashore Inn on the Beach, 60 N. Prom, Seaside, get your bag, and, when done, drop it in a trash receptacle along the Prom. Stay the day and enjoy our shops and restaurants.

Help a child experience the wonder of the outdoors with Columbia Slough Watershed Council! If you enjoy time in the outdoors and working with children, this is a great opportunity for you!
The Position: Slough School education volunteers assist with stewardship projects (native plantings, mulching, invasive species removal), water quality investigations, and natural history tours for students in the Slough School program. Volunteers first take on a shadowing role observing a staff educator and assisting with behavior monitoring and group management. Once volunteers establish familiarity with the flow of programming, they have the opportunity to lead activities and experiment with teaching/communication styles.
Slough School: Slough School is the K-12 education program of the Columbia Slough Watershed council. It serves students who reside within and/or attend school within the boundaries of the Columbia Slough Watershed in North and North East Portland. Slough School students participate in classroom programs, field science experiences, and service learning projects. Volunteers primarily serve during our elementary field science experiences, many of which take place the Whitaker Ponds Nature park in NE Portland.
Your commitment: The Council requests weekly volunteering during the Fall season (October - December). Volunteers will have the opportunity to select a consistent weekday to meet this requirement. Volunteers will have the option of continuing on into the Winter season (January - March).
Volunteer Interviews: All volunteer must complete an informal interview over the phone or in person. Fall season interviews will take place Wednesday, September 25th through Friday, September 27th.
