Come join The Trust for Public Land, Portland Parks and Recreation, and Friends of Terwilliger as we remove invasive species from Eagle Point, a new public overlook on Terwilliger Parkway. We provide the tools, water, and snacks. You provide the muscles and desire to help one of Portland's favorite parks. Projects may include gardening, painting, trail maintenance, and more. Every Stewardship Saturday includes a lesson about local ecology to start the day and concludes with a fun activity like a craft or nature hike. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome! Children under 14 are welcome with parent or guardian supervision and teens under 16 with parent or guardian permission. Snacks and tools provided. Please bring sturdy shoes, appropriate outdoor work clothing, a water bottle, and your enthusiasm for helping the community! The Plankhouse is looking for new and enthusiastic volunteers interested in learning about and sharing local Native American Culture, NW History, and Archeology with public visitors inside the Cathlapotle Plankhouse. No experience necessary, just a desire to learn and share your knowledge with others. 

In our Docent Training, you will learn about the Chinookan Peoples of the Lower Columbia, the roles of a Plankhouse docent, and interpretive techniques to share the Refuge and the Plankhouse with the public.

The Columbia Slough Watershed Council works to connect the commnity with the watershed through restoration, recreation and education. Be a part of our mission by joining our Volunteer Outreach Team!

Outreach volunteers represent the Columbia Slough Watershed Council at farmers markets, paddling festivals, street fairs and outdoor festivals all around North and North East Portland. The Outreach Team shares our mission to foster action to protect, enhance, restore and revitalize the Slough with the community. Volunteers engage event-goers in conversation, field questions about the organization and its events and provide general enthusiasm around all things Slough-related! New to the Slough? It's ok! We'll train you.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastically represent the Council at various festivals and events
  • Engage in conversation with the public around Council events and programs
  • Maintain and care for outreach materials

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong communication, teamwork and leadership skills
  • Able to work in variable outdoor conditions
  • Able to take direction and initiative
