Learn how to make a Scottish-style ribbed carrying basket out of locally available materials! Bring a sharp knife and hand pruners and keen ears and eyes for paying close attention to the teaching demonstrations. Learn the basic skills you need to weave while emphasizing the magic of the process and deepening your appreciation for the incredible strength and vitality of the plants in our area. Includes harvesting demonstration. Materials provided.  Ages 16 - adult.

Jackson Bottom Wetlands Preserve is a facility of the City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department bordering the Tualatin River in SW Hillsboro. Features include: 635 acres of wetlands undergoing an active restoration program and riparian forest with four miles of walking trails. A pollinator garden with active mason bee nests, benches and sheltered overlook of preserve. A designated Important Bird Area for wintering waterfowl. Over 200 species of birds have been recorded. Trails are open dawn to dusk. Pets and bicycles are not allowed on the trails. Education Center Building open 10am-4pm daily: real bald eagle nest, interpretive displays, nature store, classroom, restrooms.

Winter Twig Identification Workshop

Volunteers will be able to identify 30 native trees and shrubs via winter twig identification.The class is taught by Sage Jensen, environmental consultant, and experienced botanist. Being able to identify native plants in the winter is a fun adventure and not as diffiicult as one might think. Join Sage along with fellow plant lovers for a fun afternoon . Easy to access study materials provided.There will be a field trip to a nearby SOLVE restoration site. Let's geek out together. Refreshments and snacks provided.

Family Volunteer Day at Dahl Park

This is a family adventure located at a beautiful location at the confluence of the Clackamas and Willamette rivers. This is a family friendly site. Age appropriate tools are provided. The confluence is an important location for both juvenile and adult salmon. Osprey can often be seen in the area. This native tree planting project is part of a larger stream restoration project initiated by the Clackamas River Basin Council. Volunteers will be planting native trees like western red cedar, and native shrubs like salmonberry and indian plum. Volunteers will also be mulching and installing live willow stakes. Native plantings help filter pollutants, provide shade, and improve fish and wildlife habitat.

Planting at Hallinan Creek

We are starting to replant our Hallinan Creek site and we need your help! We spent last summer removing harmful invasive plants from this creek area and we are ready to plant native species. The plants we will be installing provide great benefit to our local forests and creeks. Tools, gloves, and snacks provided. Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and long sleeves. This project is part of an ongoing effort since our group adopted the park in 2010 to replace destructive monoculture with native plants and make trails more inviting for the community to enjoy.
