Mill Park Neighborhood Cleanup

In this event we will be cleaning up trash along the streets in the Mill Park neighborhood area. We will begin at Floyd Light City Park at the end of SE Yamhill St, and our coverage from there will be between SE Alder St and SE Salmon St, and SE 111th St and 117th St. Since this event takes place the day after Halloween, families and children are encouraged to participate in the cleanup in their Halloween costumes! At the end of the event we plan on holding a costume contest for the kids (with prizes!). This goal of this cleanup is not only to pick up candy wrappers and other trash, but to create connections between residents of this neighborhood and provide a fun, helpful activity for kids and adults alike. Green Streets Cleanup Blitz

Bring the whole family outdoors for a morning of making Johnson Creek a more beautiful place! The Green Streets Cleanup Blitz is on October 24th from 9am-12 at the Green Lents Community Tool Library. Green Streets manage storm water and improve water quality in our creeks. Every fall, we work together to remove fallen leaves from facilities to help them function properly again. Afterwards, all volunteers are welcome to stay for a potluck from 12-2pm. We'll explore the 16-acre Sauvie Island Organics farm and the grounds of Howell Territorial Park while learning about food, farming and the land. Our staff will guide you and your family through an exploration of our curriculum, designed for elementary school-aged children, including:

  • Soil Exploration. Dig in and learn about healthy soil.
  • Seed to Harvest. Plant, tend and harvest the Grow Lunch Garden.
  • Healthy Snacks. Taste fresh veggies that you can use at home to create yummy snacks!
  • Plant Parts Investigation. Explore the farm and plants we can eat.
  • Wildlife & Food web. Who else has been foraging on the farm?
  • Pollination Station. Meet these hard-working farm friends.

Polish the Pearl (PDNA)

Join neighbors and friends for a fall neighborhood clean-up of the Pearl District! Volunteers meet at Peet's Coffee to check in, receive a free cup of coffee, get a street assignment, pick up supplies, and head out into the neighborhood to pick up litter. After the event, volunteers turn in supplies and receive a treat as recognition for their clean-up efforts. Stick around for a special bike raffle! All supplies are provided, such as safety vests, gloves, trash pickers, brooms, trash bags, etc. Just register for the event online, show up, and be prepared to have a fun time! Check-in starts at 8:30 AM. Teams leave at 9 AM and meet in the northern Pearl at 11:30 AM. The event will happen rain or shine - be sure to dress for the weather. Minors under the age of 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Polish the Pearl is a bi-annual event organized by the Pearl District Neighborhood Association (PDNA) Livability and Safety Committee.
