Every 1st and 3rd Saturday through October the Washington Trails Association (WTA) hosts a morning work party at a nearby park from 9am to 12pm.

WTA provides all tools and instruction at these events that are geared towards youth, families and the young at heart (all ages welcome!)

This Saturday we're at Whipple Creek Regional Park in Clark County near Ridgefield, WA. The park features an extensive trail network that offers multiple loop options through lush Douglas-fir forest--an shaded oasis reminiscent of Old-Growth groves in the western Cascades.

This 300-acre regional park is located off Northwest 179th Avenue west of the Clark County Fairgrounds. The main feature of this park is 4.3 miles of trails that cater to hikers and horseback riders alike. The Whipple Creek Park Restoration Committee and volunteers marshaled by Clark County Parks are working to improve trails to make using the parking during winter months less of a muddy experience for equestrians, joggers, hikers and mountain bikers. This park is also an exceptionally pristine and tranquil forest environment and is home to many types of wildlife, including woodpeckers, hawks, deer, flying squirrels, herons, and beavers. Opportunities abound for wildlife viewing.

Invasive Species Invasion at Columbia Grove

Volunteer with Columbia Springs as we preserve our piece of northwest forest and the endangered Western Wahoo. Learn about invasive species, local ecology, and a rare shrub species found at Columbia Grove. Then help us to remove invasive English Ivy. We will conclude the day with a fun activity. All volunteers are welcome! Children 14 and under are welcome with parent or guardian supervision and teens under 16 with parent or guardian permission. Snacks and tools are provided. Please wear sturdy, close-toed shoes and appropriate outdoor work clothing. Walk-in's are welcome, but pre-sign up is encouraged. Parking is available along SE Evergreen Highway. Park before crossing the railroad tracks and follow the gravel road on foot to Columbia Grove. Summer is here and so is ricefield bulrush pulling season! Invasive ricefield bulrush threatens wetland ecosystems by pushing out native plants necessary to wildlife habitat. Volunteers are the reason we have been able to contain and reduce ricefield bulrush on the Refuge, where we have the only known population in Washington. Volunteers get to work in areas typically closed to public use. Please bring waterproof shoes and dress for the weather. Gloves, drinks, and snacks will be provided.

Blandford Canyon Ivy Pull team

Join the next Blandford Ivy Pull team and save native plants and trees in this urban forest.  

Where? Southwest Corner of Blandford and Macarthur  Plenty of parking in the lots across the street.

Why? Meet your neighbors and help get rid of English ivy, holly, Himalayan blackberries and other invasive species that are choking out native plants and trees. 

What to bring? Wear sturdy closed-toe shoes. Bring work gloves. No tools required. But if you have a shovel, pruners, Pulaski/grubhoe, loppers and/or pruning saw, by all means bring them! Water and a snack also a good idea.

When you ask?  The last Thursday of just about every month!

Projects will vary each month but you can expect to pull English Ivy in parks, plant trees along Burnt Bridge Creek, clean headstones at cemeteries and so much more.  Plus you can plan to have a ton of fun!

Thursday Crew Trail Work - Washington Trails Association

Each Thursday come rain or shine Washington Trails Association (WTA) hosts a trail work party somewhere in SW Washington. Come join us as we maintain, restore and even build new trails!

No prior experience is necessary, just a willingness to lend a hand. All events are free, but registration is required. We provide all tools and instruction, plus post work party refreshments.

Bring your own work gloves, sturdy boots, lunch, water and pack plus whatever clothing is appropriate for the weather. (long pants are required).

All events begin at 8:30 am and end not later than 3:30 pm back at the trailhead.
